For the past three weeks, we have been discussing four popular yet diverse flooring products. Today, we will conclude our series with Stone Polymer Composite, as known as SPC. Stone Polymer Composite is a subcategory of Luxury Vinyl Flooring (LVF). In addition to Stone Polymer Composite (SPC), you will find its similar yet diverse counterparts, Luxury Vinyl Planks (LVP), Wood Polymer Composite (WPC), and Luxury Vinyl Tiles (LVT).
Last week, we focused on Wood Polymer Composite and the week before, we discussed Luxury Vinyl. This week, we will take a final look at the last part of the Luxury Vinyl Flooring family and focus on Stone Polymer Composite. Let’s take a look!
SPC, Stone Polymer Composite, is composed of a limestone core, PVC dust, and a stabilizer. Since the composition focuses heavily on the limestone factor, we find that SPC has a rigid, dense core. With that incredibly dense core, SPC is more impact-resistant than its LVF counterpart, Wood Polymer Composite (WPC). In addition, it is made up of five layers:
- Top Layer: The upmost layer is composed of a stain-resistant and waterproof UV Ceramic Bead.
- Second Layer: The second layer is the transparent wear layer that helps provide added protection without affecting the color of your product.
- Third Layer: The third layer is the high-definition design.
- Fourth Layer: The fourth layer is the rigid core that helps hinder any expansion and contraction.
- Fifth Layer: The bottom layer is the EVA Foam Pad which absorbs sounds and creates a soft underfoot.
SPC, Stone Polymer Composite, is loved for its durability as well as resistant properties. While being scratch-resistant, SPC is also sun-resistant, making it the perfect addition to any sunroom. Additionally, it is also fire-resistant, which can help households feel more at ease.
Water-, Pet-, Sound-, and Kid-Proof
If you have an active household, SPC may be the perfect choice for you and your family. In addition to being waterproof, it is also considered pet- and kid-proof, making it perfect for families. Not to mention the backing contains a soundproof pad to eliminate excess noise throughout your home.
Where SPC succeeds in durability, it does not fall short in designs. SPC comes in a wide range of styles and designs to meet anyone’s style preferences. Also, do not let the name fool you. SPC comes in an array of high-quality, realistic wood-looks. In fact, you can even install your SPC floors in a herringbone pattern for added style.
SPC can be installed over virtually any subfloor with its floating floor locking system. In fact, its locking system makes it easy to install and replace pieces if necessary.
